Vendure vs SAP Commerce Cloud
SAP Commerce Cloud runs on SAP's patch cycle, on Azure operated by SAP, at a price agreed per deal. Vendure runs on your upgrade schedule and your infrastructure, at a published plan price.
The short answer
Choose Vendure when
- You decide when customisations get upgraded
- You want a published price rather than one agreed per deal
- You need to choose the cloud, region or run on-premises
- The ERP behind the store is not SAP
- A platform upgrade or storefront rebuild is already funded
What you leave behind on SAP Commerce Cloud
- A platform price agreed per deal
- Re-validating customisations on SAP's monthly patch cycle
- Hosting on Azure, operated by SAP
- Proprietary Type System, ImpEx and FlexibleSearch skills
Where SAP Commerce Cloud sets the terms

Upgrades on your calendar instead of SAP's
SAP supports each monthly update for six months, so every customisation must be re-validated on SAP's schedule. Vendure plugins are NestJS modules beside the Framework, and you choose when to upgrade.

A price you can read before the first sales call
SAP Commerce Cloud is sold as a negotiated subscription. SAP publishes no rate card for it, so the platform cost is agreed per deal rather than listed. Vendure Framework is free under GPLv3, the plans are a flat monthly fee up to Scale and Enterprise is a flat annual one, with no GMV charge, per-order surcharge or per-user fee.

Run it on infrastructure you control
SAP Commerce Cloud runs on Microsoft Azure, operated by SAP, and the Type System, ImpEx and FlexibleSearch skills do not transfer anywhere else. Vendure self-hosts on any cloud or on-premises, the GPLv3 Framework cannot be revoked, and your data sits in your own SQL database.
How they compare
Six dimensions, the same six on every Vendure comparison page. Every claim about SAP Commerce Cloud is sourced at the foot of this page.

| Licensing and cost model | VendureFree open-source Vendure Framework under GPLv3. Four flat, cumulative plans from €199 a month on a 12-month term, with Enterprise from €60,000 a year. You do not choose the hyperscaler or run the platform. |
| Ecosystem and talent | VendureMainstream TypeScript, Node and GraphQL. No proprietary skill silo. | SAP Commerce CloudJava and Spring, plus the proprietary Type System, ImpEx and FlexibleSearch, and an Angular storefront. These skills are particular to the platform. |
| Migration effort | VendureImport catalogue and customers, rebuild the storefront on the GraphQL API. This is a reimplementation, not a lift-and-shift. | SAP Commerce CloudNot applicable. |
Vendure pricing: a free open-source framework, then four flat tiers
Vendure Framework is free under GPLv3. Starter, Growth, Scale and Enterprise add B2B capabilities cumulatively, on a flat fee with no GMV, per-order or per-user charges.
When SAP Commerce budgets come up for a decision
An enterprise architect or head of digital usually reopens the platform when an upgrade or an Accelerator replacement is already funded.
A storefront rebuild off the deprecated Accelerator
now that SAP has deprecated the Accelerator UIs for a headless storefront, a funded rebuild onto the Composable Storefront raises the question of whether the platform underneath is still the right one
A budgeted platform version upgrade
where the money is approved but the destination is still open
A requirement to run on infrastructure the customer controls
which an SAP-operated platform cannot meet
A platform fee agreed per deal
rather than a published price
Hybris inherited through an acquisition
rather than chosen
The ERP behind the store is not SAP
which removes the suite-integration argument
Leaving SAP Commerce is a reimplementation rather than a lift-and-shift, because the proprietary data model, ImpEx and FlexibleSearch do not port. We scope the effort against what is actually in production rather than quoting a band.
Moving off SAP Commerce Cloud?
The proprietary data model means a reimplementation rather than a lift-and-shift, and we will not pretend otherwise. Migration guides are being written; the hub has what exists today.
Vendure and SAP Commerce Cloud, answered
Yes, when the ERP behind the store is not SAP, when a storefront rebuild or platform upgrade is already funded, when Hybris arrived through an acquisition, when you want a published price rather than one agreed per deal, or when you need to run on infrastructure you control.
Company accounts, quotes, lists, quick order and store credit from Starter. Organization hierarchy, managed lists, packaging, gift cards and global search at Growth. Contract pricing, order approvals, the audit log, single sign-on, search analytics and the Next.js B2B storefront at Scale. Negotiation, access policy, advanced approvals, audit governance, Configurator and PunchOut at Enterprise. They are licensed capabilities rather than services you commission.
SAP publishes no rate card for SAP Commerce Cloud. Vendure Framework is free under GPLv3. Four cumulative paid plans sit on top: Starter at €199, Growth at €599 and Scale at €2,499 a month on a 12-month term, with Enterprise from €60,000 a year. Each plan inherits the one below, and there is no GMV charge, per-order surcharge or per-user fee, so growing revenue does not reprice the platform.
Yes. Vendure Framework is a complete open-source commerce framework under GPLv3, written in TypeScript on Node.js with GraphQL Shop and Admin APIs. It is free to run and self-host, and the licence cannot be revoked or discontinued for you. The commercial B2B capabilities are separately licensed plugins layered on top of the Framework. Every paid plan also includes a commercial licence for Vendure Framework for your project, as an alternative to GPLv3.
Yes, through an integration your team or a partner builds. Vendure ships no ERP connector. Integrations are plugins written in TypeScript against a documented API, so SAP ERP can stay the source of truth for stock, customer-specific prices or credit while Vendure owns the buying experience. Orders go to the ERP, and price and stock changes come back.
Longer than most replatforms, and we will not undersell it. A proprietary data model means the move is a reimplementation rather than a lift-and-shift. We scope the effort against what is actually in production rather than quoting a band, and the usual moment to start is when a platform upgrade or a storefront rebuild is already funded.
Yes. Vendure self-hosts on any cloud or on-premises, in any region, and you choose the hyperscaler rather than inheriting one. Your data sits in your own SQL database and you keep full access to logs and infrastructure, which is what makes sovereign and regulated deployments possible. Vendure Cloud, our managed hosting, opens as a closed beta for paid plans, with general availability planned for Q1 2027.
