About Vendure

The platform shaped by real-world complexity.

Vendure began as an open-source answer to a practical need: a modern, extensible commerce framework. Years of delivering complex B2B projects then tested and shaped it in production. Today, Vendure is open at the core, built in Austria, and run worldwide.

How we got here

From first commit to one company

  1. 2018

    The first commit

Michael Bromley makes the first commit to Vendure on 31 May 2018: the open-source commerce framework he could not find anywhere else. Headless, TypeScript, built for developers who care about code quality, and developed in the open on GitHub from day one.

  2. 2022

    Two threads meet

David Höck and Max Page have spent years running an agency on the frontline of complex B2B commerce: custom pricing engines, multi-tenant systems, approval workflows, legacy ERP integrations. Project after project, they watch off-the-shelf platforms break in the same places. In Vendure they find the foundation those projects actually needed, and a joint venture with Michael is incorporated. From then on, every enterprise-scale project feeds what it teaches back into the platform.

  3. 2024

    Betting on the product

Demand outgrows what a services-led joint venture can carry, and we look hard at how to fund the next stage, including conversations with investors. We choose to keep funding growth through revenue from commercial products. It keeps the roadmap accountable to the customers who run Vendure in production, and it keeps us building at our own pace.

  4. 2026

    All-in on Vendure

We wind down the agency business entirely and consolidate into one company under the Vendure brand, led by David as CEO, Michael as CTO, and Max running operations and legal. No more leading end-to-end implementation projects, no competing with the partners who deliver them. One company, one focus.

Our principles

What the frontline taught us

Years of delivering complex commerce shaped how we build the company, not just the product.

Adaptability is the product

The pattern was consistent: much of each business was standard, but the differences were often what made it competitive. Platforms tend to fail at those edges. Vendure is built to be shaped around a business, not worked around.

Open source at the core

Our standing commitment: nothing that is open source today moves behind a paywall. Vendure Core stays free under GPLv3, and the commercial offering is purely additive.

Accountable to the people who run it

Commercial customers fund development, so production needs shape the roadmap. Feedback from the wider community keeps it grounded in how Vendure is actually used.

One focus, no channel conflict

We build the product. Official partners and in-house teams deliver the implementations. We do not lead end-to-end implementation projects, so agencies can work with Vendure without competing with the company behind it.

Funded by the people who use it

Vendure is self-funded. Revenue from the commercial products finances development, which keeps the roadmap accountable to the people who run Vendure in production: customers and the community.

That loop is the operating model. It is why the platform ships what real projects need next, and why businesses can plan on Vendure as a long-term foundation.

Built in Europe, run worldwide

We build Vendure in Austria with a European team, for a global market. That shapes the product: full control over your stack, EU data-residency options, auditable open-source code, and GDPR-aligned data handling with ready-to-sign processing agreements.

Businesses that self-host Vendure choose their infrastructure and region. Vendure Cloud offers managed deployment in supported regions, with exact availability confirmed during onboarding.
