Vendure vs Salesforce Commerce Cloud
Salesforce prices Commerce Cloud on a share of your gross merchandise value and runs it on infrastructure it operates. Vendure puts company accounts, contract pricing and approvals on flat plans, with code your team can run anywhere.
The short answer
Choose Vendure when
- Your platform fee should stay flat as revenue grows
- Approvals and contract pricing must come with the plan
- You want to choose where the platform runs
- Your team builds in TypeScript and owns the code
What you leave behind on Salesforce
- A licence priced on a share of GMV
- Extra licences for buyer managers and CPQ
- Code tied to cartridges, Apex and Managed Runtime
- Release timing set by Salesforce
Where Salesforce costs grow with the channel
A platform fee that follows your revenue
Salesforce takes a percentage of gross merchandise value, and B2B Commerce can also be licensed per order, so the bill rises as the channel succeeds. Every edition is "Contact for pricing", and Premier support adds 30% of net licence fees. Vendure plans are flat, from €199 a month, with no GMV, per-order or per-user fee.
B2B buying without a stack of extra licences
On Salesforce B2B Commerce, a buyer manager who works across colleagues' orders needs a Customer Community Plus licence, and CPQ is a separate Revenue Cloud product priced per user. Vendure includes company accounts and quotes from Starter, contract pricing and order approvals from Scale, and the product configurator, quote negotiation and PunchOut on Enterprise.
Code that runs where you choose
B2C Commerce code runs as cartridges on Salesforce's script engine, and the storefront has moved from SFRA to Composable Storefront to Storefront Next, all hosted by Salesforce. Custom B2B checkouts must call a Salesforce method that reports GMV and orders for licensing. Vendure is TypeScript on Node.js with a GraphQL API, and it self-hosts on any cloud or on-premises.
How they compare
Six dimensions, the same six on every Vendure comparison page. Every claim about Salesforce Commerce Cloud is sourced at the foot of this page.

No forks, no extension cap. | Salesforce Commerce CloudB2C: server-side JavaScript in cartridges, with platform quotas such as 16 outbound HTTP calls per storefront page, and OCAPI deprecated in favour of SCAPI. B2B: Apex, Lightning Web Components and Experience Builder inside a Salesforce org, with a licence-tracking call required in custom checkouts. |
| Licensing and cost model | VendureVendure Framework is free under GPLv3. Four flat, cumulative plans from €199 a month on a 12-month term, with Enterprise from €60,000 a year. No proprietary skill silo. | Salesforce Commerce CloudSalesforce-specific skills: B2C Commerce Script and SFRA cartridges, or Apex and Lightning Web Components. Salesforce advises choosing a certified SI partner and publishes 3–18 month implementation timelines. |
| Migration effort | VendureImport catalogue, price books and customers, rebuild the storefront on the GraphQL API or start from the Vendure B2B Storefront included from Scale, then re-point integrations. | Salesforce Commerce CloudB2C exports catalogue, price books, customers and orders as XML. B2B CSV export covers product columns only, up to 300,000 products. Storefront code does not carry over. |
Vendure pricing: a free open-source framework, then four flat tiers
Vendure Framework is free under GPLv3. Starter, Growth, Scale and Enterprise add B2B capabilities cumulatively, on a flat fee with no GMV, per-order or per-user charges.
When teams pick Vendure over Salesforce
The storefront rebuild is the moment in this matchup. When the storefront is being rewritten anyway, the platform under it is an open question.
A renewal priced on last year's GMV
arrives after the channel grew, and the licence grew with it
A storefront rebuild is already being scoped
because moving off SFRA to Composable Storefront or Storefront Next is a rebuild either way
OCAPI integrations need rewriting
now that Salesforce has deprecated OCAPI, so ERP and OMS connections need new work anyway
B2B requirements keep adding products to the quote
CPQ and buyer-manager licences, each priced on its own
The platform must run on infrastructure you control
which a Salesforce-operated platform cannot offer
Moving off Salesforce Commerce Cloud?
Catalogue, price books, customers and orders come out of Salesforce as structured exports. The storefront and checkout are rebuilt on the GraphQL API. Migration guides are being written; the hub has what exists today.
Vendure and Salesforce Commerce Cloud, answered
Yes. Sales Cloud can stay the system of record for accounts and opportunities while Vendure runs the buying experience: catalogue, contract prices, carts, approvals and orders. Vendure ships no CRM connectors, so your team or a partner connects the two through Vendure's GraphQL APIs and plugins. Buyers and buyer managers order in Vendure without Salesforce community licences.
Nothing. Plans are a flat monthly fee, from €199 on Starter to €2,499 on Scale on a 12-month term, and Enterprise starts at €60,000 a year. There is no GMV charge, per-order surcharge or per-user fee, so growing revenue does not reprice the platform. Implementation, and any Vendure Cloud usage above the included resources, are priced separately.
Catalogue, price books, customers and orders come out of B2C Commerce as XML through Salesforce's own import and export schemas. B2B Commerce product data exports to CSV, with the rest available through Salesforce's APIs. The storefront and cartridge code is rebuilt on Vendure's GraphQL API, or started from the Vendure B2B Storefront included from Scale.
Vendure Framework ships an MCP server with 42 built-in tools, and Vendure Platform adds tools for the capabilities on your plan, so AI agents can work with your catalogue, orders, customers and B2B workflows under the permissions you already set. Your engineers' coding agents read the Vendure docs through an MCP endpoint and write changes into your own repository as plugins. See Build with AI.
Not for long. Vendure Cloud, the managed runtime, opens as a closed beta for paid plans, with general availability planned for Q1 2027. The plan price is the same either way: each paid plan includes a base set of Cloud resources, and usage above that is billed on top. Until then, Vendure self-hosts on any cloud or on-premises, and moving to Cloud later is a runtime change rather than a rebuild.
