Announcing the Vendure Open Source Community Team
May 16, 2024
I’ve been involved in the open source movement for well over 10 years now, and I am therefore keenly aware of the importance of a healthy, active community. An inactive, unfriendly community where questions go unanswered is the early sign of an OSS project that is headed in the wrong direction.
That’s why I’m calling on you: help me and help the whole Vendure community & ecosystem continue to expand and thrive by joining our Open Source Community Team!
First watch this video:
I’m like the first guy dancing. The first guy could have danced all day on his own. The first guy is not the key player here. It was only after more people stood up and joined in that the party got started!
I want you to be the second, third, and fourth joining me. Let's get a party started. Together we’ll create a movement!
Purpose
The Vendure Open Source Community Team (OSCT) has the purpose of:
Creating & maintaining a healthy community that is welcoming, active and helpful.
Assisting with project maintenance & issue triage.
Promoting the Vendure open source project via word-of-mouth, social media, blog posts and other forms of content.
Coordinating with the Vendure maintainers on issues relating to both the community and the roadmap of the product.
Membership
The OSCT is open to any member of the Vendure community. If one or more of the following apply to you, you are a good candidate and should consider applying:
You actively work with Vendure
You enjoy helping others
You are interested in community building
You work for a company invested in the success of Vendure
You have an interest in helping the Vendure open source project & community expand and thrive
You have an interest in working directly with the Vendure maintainers to shape the ongoing development of the platform
Roles
Members of the OSCT will have the following roles (individual members can choose to specialize in one or more):
Discord moderation: members will be granted moderator rights on the Vendure Discord server. Not a lot of moderation is needed generally - occasionally kicking a drop-shipping spammer or letting new members know about which channel to use.
Discord support: Most people in Discord are there to get help with their questions about Vendure. We need team members who spend a little time on a regular basis sharing their knowledge and keeping Discord an active and fun place to hang out.
GitHub triage: For those interested in assisting on the technical side, we need help with responses to GitHub issues & discussions.
Promotion: Help us promote Vendure through social media posts, blog articles, tutorials, videos, conference talks etc.
Documentation: An excellent way to help a lot of people at once is to create docs answering a question or use-case that comes up often.
Community feedback: As a team member, your feedback and perspective is valuable. What can we do to further improve the community & open source project? Got a great idea for a community initiative? Let us know!
Benefits & Perks
In addition to a deep feeling of satisfaction, as a member of the OSCT you’ll enjoy the following benefits:
